Bone broth is a nutrient-dense, highly digestible supplement that can benefit Labrador Retrievers in many ways. It is rich in collagen, glucosamine, amino acids, and minerals, making it an excellent addition to their diet.
Supports Joint Health & Mobility
Labradors and retrievers are prone to hip dysplasia and arthritis.
Bone broth contains glucosamine, chondroitin, and collagen, which help support joint cartilage and reduce inflammation.
Boosts Gut Health & Digestion
The gelatin in bone broth helps strengthen the gut lining, which can aid dogs with sensitive stomachs, food intolerances, or leaky gut syndrome.
Helps improve digestion and absorption of nutrients.
Hydration & Appetite Boosting
Great for picky eaters or dogs recovering from illness.
Provides extra hydration, especially for dogs that don’t drink enough water.
Strengthens the Immune System
Bone broth is packed with amino acids like arginine and glutamine, which support immune function.
Helps dogs recover from illness and reduce inflammation.
Promotes a Healthy Coat & Skin
Rich in collagen and glycine, which improve skin elasticity and reduce dryness, itchiness, and shedding.
Supports a shiny, healthy coat.
How Bone Broth is Sourced & Made
Sourcing High-Quality Ingredients
For the best bone broth, use:
- Grass-fed beef bones or pasture-raised poultry bones for optimal nutrition.
- Organic, hormone-free bones (free from antibiotics and chemicals).
- Marrow bones, knuckle bones, or poultry feet for high collagen content.
Homemade Bone Broth Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2–3 lbs of raw or cooked beef, chicken, or turkey bones
- 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar (helps extract nutrients from bones)
- Filtered water (enough to cover bones)
- Optional: Carrots, celery, turmeric, or parsley (for extra nutrients)
Instructions:
- Place bones in a large slow cooker or stockpot.
- Add apple cider vinegar and fill with water.
- Simmer on low heat for 12–24 hours (longer = more nutrients).
- Strain out bones and let the broth cool.
- Remove excess fat (if needed) and store in the fridge for up to 5 days or freeze in portions.
Serving Tip: Serve 1/4 to 1/2 cup per day over kibble or as a drink. Avoid store-bought broths with onions, garlic, salt, or preservatives, as these are toxic to dogs.
